Movie Time

I watched 2 movies back 2 back last night, DVDs from Uncle Ho of course. That's the good thing about working night shift from home, you get more time to do your own stuff and watch some movies.

The Devil Wears Prada is about a naive young woman comes to New York and scores a job as the assistant to one of the city's biggest magazine editors, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly. I find it quite funny and entertaining. I didn't know Jimmy Choo is so famous that they keep mentioning his shoes in the movie, might as well change the name to 'The Devil Wears Jimmy Choo' (sounds a bit weird). I should have taken a photo with him when I saw him in the toilet at KL Convention Centre last month. :p

Babel is a completely different movie. I watched it because of Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and the 7.8 rating in IMDB. It is about a married couple on vacation being stuck by tragedy in the Moroccan desert, touching off an interlocking story involving six different families. The story happens in 3 locations and seems independent of each other yet they are loosely connected. It is quite similar to Crash or Syriana. It's quite 'real' but a bit boring. But as usual, non commercial movie normally stands a bigger chance in winning awards.

I am sure not many people will appreciate it. But if you like Crash or Syriana, you may like this too.

Babel is normally used to represent linguistic confusion due to the story of Tower of Babel in the Holy Bible. Is there such a theme in the movie? In Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, eating a Babelfish will allow one to understand all languages.

BTW, let me know what you all think of Casino Royale. It's really different from all the previous Bond movies, but somehow I think it works as it's 'fresher' without Bond being invincible and always escaping some dangerous situations using Q's gadgets. Kinda missed Q though since he's been on almost every Bond film. The film is quite long with a lot of twists and turns (some say this is more like a spy story Fleming intended it to be). You really have a feel that this is something different by Bond's reply to whether he would like his martini shaken or stirred. Looks like these guys are trying hard to break the traditional 007 mold with Craig and the script.

I'm not very into movies, so I'm not very updated. But, Devils Wears Prada....I thought that it is a chick flick. Bought the DVD a long time ago, but haven't got the mood to watch it yet.Heard from my girlfriends that once you watched the movie, you're so gonna hit the shopping malls and get yourself a few pairs of pumps.Movies are really good for advertising.

For doubleOnothing, your decription of 'Babel' has made me dig out my Holy Bible, covered in dust, at the back of my book shelf.

Double0nothing: I didn't know you also read Bible. Now I think I know why it's is called Babel. There were lots of confusion in the movies due to communication problems.

I didn't finish 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy', stopped it halfway.

Girl next door: Then I think the best time to watch the movie is one day before you get your salary.

Kay Win,

It's ok. I think it's "Kurniaan Tuhan"(God's Will)...coz I was watching it today, and halfway, the movie hung! So, well....guess I can forget about the pumps...
